Museum Information
Opened in 1991, St. Joseph's museum boasts a proud collection of traditional items, art, research material and more. As an outreach program of St. Joseph's,
the museum operates entirely on donations. Admission is free; tours are offered, and visitors are welcome year-round!
Visitors benefit from a mini-theater, English-Lakota descriptions, a research/archive library and the stunning Collector’s Gallery, where local artists display and sell their work.
This quality Native American experience stems from the Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center being the only Native American cultural center of its kind. St. Joseph's Indian School has acquired this rare collection of art and artifacts through gifts received from alumni and friends since the school opened its doors in 1927.
Since the museum opened, it has acquired many new pieces and continually strives to add relevant pieces to the collection.
